CHURCH NEWS
The national event “Ride and Stride” took place on Saturday 13th September. All sorts of people set out on foot, by bicycle and in their cars to visit churches in their locality. They are sponsored to do so, aiming to raise much needed funds for their local church together with their local Historic Churches Trust (in our case Shropshire’s). Fifteen cyclists and drivers visited St Mary’s that day and enjoyed hot drinks and homemade cake before setting out again. St Mary’s benefited from grant funds from Shropshire Historic Churches Trust when we renovated the church in 2013.
Our annual Ramble and Lunch took place on Sunday 14th September. Intrepid walkers came early at 10.00am to beat the weather warning of high winds and driving rain later in the day. Unfortunately, the rain came down before noon and caught some ramblers out. They and others who braved the weather, were rewarded by a vast array of delicious salads and desserts to choose from, all kindly donated by local people to help raise funds for their church. “We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped and brought amazing food to our ramble and lunch: the workers on the day and the ones behind the scenes. Thank you for everyone coming on such a horrible day and to see the next generation of young farmers gives us good reason to go on.”
We held our Harvest Service and Supper on Friday 3rd October at 7.00pm. Eleven children joined in taking offerings of soil & water, fruit & veg, eggs, milk and bread to the altar to say thank you for the harvest, while parents and friends joined in singing the familiar harvest hymns. This was followed by a ploughman’s supper in the village hall, with some delicious ham supplied by Lance the butcher, homemade puddings to follow and drinks from James’ bar.
Our Service of Remembrance will take place at 10.45am on Sunday 9th November.
Our Christmas Carol Service will take place on Sunday 21st December at 11.00am.
